Vystudoval Vysokou školu uměleckoprůmyslovou v Praze (1997–1998 Ateliér architektury, školu Evy Jiřičné; 2000–2002 Ateliér sochy, školu Jiřího Beránka) a dále Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze (2002–2006 Ateliér kresby, školu Jitky Svobodové). Jan Kaláb patří k nejstarší generaci writerů v Čechách. Nezaujal pouze klasickým graffiti s výrazným talentem pro dynamickou a barevně hravou kompozici, ale také svými sochami a objekty rozličných tvarů, které instaluje ve veřejném prostoru. V roce 2001 vytvořil první 3D graffiti na světě. Nebojí se experimentovat a díky tomu úspěšně posouvá hranice svého oboru. Absolvoval bezpočet výstav a festivalů v Čechách i v zahraničí a jeho díla se vyskytují v předních sbírkách soukromých i státních institucí. Momentálně se věnuje vizuálnímu průzkumu abstraktních geometrických obrazců ve dvou a třídimenzionální podobě. Zajímá se o vztah geometricky konstruovaného obrysu v jeho dynamickém běhu a barevné intenzity výplňových ploch. Pro abstraktní výraz nalézá nové, překvapující možnosti.

Kaláb is a graduate of the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design (1997–1998 architecture, prof. Eva Jiřičná; 2000–2002, sculpture, prof. Jiří Beránek) and the Academy of Fine Arts (2002–2006, drawing, prof. Jitka Svobodová), both in Prague. He is a member of the older generation of graffiti writers in the Czech Republic. Besides his classical graffiti art showing his distinctive talent for dynamic and colorfully playful composition, he is also known for the sculptures and objects of varying shapes that he has installed in the public space. In 2001, he created the world’s first 3D graffiti. Kaláb is not afraid to experiment, thanks to which he has successfully pushed the boundaries of his field. He has participated in countless exhibitions and festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad, and his works can be found in the collections of leading public and private galleries. Today, he focuses on the visual exploration of abstract geometric patterns in two and three dimensions. He is also interested in the relationship between the dynamism of geometrically constructed contours and the intensity of colors use to fill them. Elsewhere, he finds new and surprising possibilities for abstract expression.
